Leeds Sports Awards 2023: 20th Anniversary

After working alongside Royal Armouries and Navigation Agency for many years, we were delighted to be invited back to provide Technical and Production Management support for the 20th Anniversary of Leeds Sports Awards.
Tasked with providing a spectacular night to celebrate the achievements of both olympic-level professional athletes and local amateur sporting clubs, Firefly took this fantastic opportunity to showcase our full creative ability.
A new addition to our stock and a firm favourite for our lighting technicians, the CHAUVET Professional Rogue Outcast 1 BeamWash took pride of place lining the stage, and were the perfect lighting element to add dimension and depth. Programmed and operated using Avolites Ltd.
It sounded fantastic thanks to our dBTechnologies PA and Sennheiser microphones. All mixed on our Allen & Heath Avantis desk.
A mirrored stage design included two easily-accessible ramps, two lecterns and two rear-projection screens to highlight featured videos and award content. Our LED Display Absen walls looked incredible too.
Our BirdDog PTZ cameras were used to project athlete interviews onto the projectors, giving hundreds of attendees a crystal clear, unobstructed view.

“Leeds Sports Awards is always an exciting event to do. Firefly aim to find a way to produce a fresh stage design but one that’s accessible and looks incredible.
It’s essential that the stage has ramp access for our athletes, so it was up to Tom to find a way to incorporate ramps into the stage design. Safe to say he did an incredible job! Often ramps are stuck onto the side of the stage, but we wanted to do something a bit different. Tom designed the stage around the ramp, so that it created a show-stopping spectacle.
Decorated in EPIX strips and our new Chauvet lighting fixtures in the colours of LSA, the stage glowed and acted as a visual celebration for the incredible athletes and their achievements.
My role included working alongside the event agency and clients to ensure that everything from a technical perspective was covered and on the day I acted as their liaison and show caller, communicating with the technical crew, calling cues and walking everyone through the running order to ensure the event ran perfectly and smoothly.
